Grand Sierra has grand plans for the 145 acre property, located in Reno, Nevada. Additions to the final master plan will include premium river front shopping. Imagine spending the day strolling along cobble stone walkways to high fashion boutiques and name brand designer shops. In the evening watch an extravagant water and light show on our 33-acre lake. Summit Owners can stroll along the river walk and enjoy designer shops, fine dining, and breathtaking views of the Sierra mountains and cityscape.
The property opened in 1978 as the MGM Grand and was the largest casino in the world at the time, with a 26-story, 1,015 room hotel on a 145 acre site. The building was expanded in 1981, increasing the rooms to 2,001. In 1986 the property along with the MGM Grand in Las Vegas were sold to Bally Gaming Corp. Both resorts were re-branded as Bally’s. In early 1992, Harveys Lake Tahoe entered a bidding war with Hilton Hotels Corp. over the resort. In the end Hilton won and acquired the property for 83 million dollars. The hotel was later acquired by Harrah’s Entertainment (which also owns Harveys), in the 2005 acquisition of Caesars Entertainment.
In May of 2005 Caesars Entertainment announced an agreement to sell the Reno Hilton to Grand Sierra Resort Corp. for 150 million dollars. In June of 2006 the sale was completed and the name of the property was changed from Reno Hilton to The Grand Sierra Resort.
Today the property has a very different look and feel then the Reno Hilton days. Grand Sierra has emerged as Reno’s showpiece, a destination vacation hotspot. You’ll find fine dining at Charlie Palmer Steak, Fin Fish or Dolce Enoteca e Ristorante, headlining entertainment in the Grand Theater, and non-stop action on the casino floor.
